Sergey Sarumyan was born in August 1950 in Stepanakert in Nagorney Karaback. In 1967 he moved to , its capital Yerevan . He went to art school there. In 1970 he graduated from Moscow Public State University of Art by correspondence. In 1973 he entered Yerevan Art Institute at the department of industrial drawings. After his graduation Sergey Sarumyan began to work in the State Museum of Revolution in as a graphic artist. In 1980 Sergey Sarumyan moved to Moscow where Moscow art world enriched his interpretation of the world and formed his aesthetic credo. He started working in poster and easel-painting sphere in which he made success. From 1985 till 1988 he was an adviser of artistic school of Sevastopol region in Moscow . Since 1991 he has been a member of Moscow Organization of Artists Union in , a member of an association " Moscow print", " Moscow poster", a member of International Art Fund and a member of Moscow Artist Union.

Sergey Sarumyan works along the lines of drawings, paintings and decorative art. Sarumyan has become an author of many printings among them books and posters and other prints.

He took part in designing series of objects in Moscow and other towns.

Sergey Sarumyan is a participant of numerous exhibitions and international contents. He was a participant of a group picture-show of Moscow artists in Print and News Agency in 1990 and in 1991 as well as a participant of a show in a Diplomatic Academy of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in in 1991. In 1994 Sergey Sarumyan’s personal exhibition was held in Central House of Artists in Moscow .

Sergey Sarumyan was a participant of a group exhibition within the framework of Cultural Days of Armenian Community in Moscow and in the town Electrostyle in February 1995.

In September 1995 he became both an organizer and a participant of group exhibition of Moscow artists in Russian JSC "Gazprom".
